In the afternoon of May 12 Monday, 2008, a major earthquake measuring 7.8 Richter Scale hit Wenchuan County of Southwest China’s Sichuan province at 2:28 p.m. Earthquake was felt in Zhengzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu and Beijing and Canton area. Now the official reported casualty is more than 8,000. China’s primer Wen Jiabao has arrived in Chengdu to work onsite for the rescue arrangement. The earthquake is the greatest one to date in the past 22 years. The epicenter is in rural mountain area, where roads are all cut off and rescue support is hard to reach. Military troops have been immediately sent for rescue. Since the telecommunication appliances are all destroyed, there is limited information reported either to the government or to the public by far.
