Day 47 – 17th May 2016 Tuesday – Yoga and Teaching

Kevin was off again at 5.30am and headed over the big bridge and down the coastline. I meanwhile went to yoga and then to the beach. I had used an ockie strap to tie the box of Isa on the back of the scooter for Jane. Organised with Jane to meet at 6am tomorrow for our ride down the coast. Stayed at Soul Kitchen after yoga and went walking up the beach. Saw Hien and her mother Tuh and chatted briefly. Met Kathy and Collin who are Hien’s Australian sponsors. Talked with them about the pre test that Hien had sat and appears Tan and Hien are telling people different things about the areas that she did well in and did not. There is also differences in when she will sit the IELTS test and the pre test again. I will get Collins email to keep him abreast of our studies. They do not believe that Hien will leave her mother to study in Australia. They have offered her accommodation with them in Sydney. When I got back after 1 ½ hours Jane and Nigel had joined Kevin and were chatting. We had lunch and then I had to head off to prepare for both Hien and Tri’s lessons.i met Hien near Betel Garden and she was on an electric scooter.  I set up a timetable for Hien with the first lesson just going through what the different parts of the test were etc. we had time to do one listening exercise from the IELTS 6.5 to 7.5 book that Collin gave to Hien. She was not able to answer half of the questions. I had to keep stopping the tape and replaying so that she could pick up the answer. Her spelling also was not at a level where she would score points. I am now going to try her on the IELTS 5 to 6.5 book. After the lesson I quickly went to Vang’s for Tri’s lesson. He is coming along really well and seems to be enjoying the lessons with the singing. We actually had some fun giving each other instructions for drawing a face. The pictures were quite silly. Vang had invited us to go for Banh Xeo at 3 Ladies in Duy Thanh which is over the new big bridge. We picked Kevin up on the way there. It was a typical VN local eatery with small chairs and table. Vang ordered the Banh Xeo with pork only as Kevin won't eat shrimp, pork skewers and salad with peanut dipping sauce. The plate had 10 pancakes on it. Wing certainly ate his share, pulling out the insides and dropping it on the floor and just eating the pancake. We ordered another plate and Vang ordered fish for Tri and herself. It turned out to be stingray. It didn't look too appetising to either Kevin or I. We had 5 beers between us and when the bill came at only VND180k or $11.25 we thought this was good for the 5 of us.
