Day 3 – 3rd May 2015 – Hanoi Food Tour

Awake early, around 5am and Kevin managed to lock us out of the bathroom. We had to ring reception and wake the staff up to come and unlock the door. We decided to head out for a walk and I needed to put on some sunblock but Kevin had again locked the bathroom door. Another quick trip to the front office and they had to come again and open the door. Lock appears to be broken and will need to be fixed. We headed out to walk around Hoan Kiem Lake and I deviated to buy some limes from a small street market. Kevin kept on and I finished the lap of the Lake and then headed up to Dong Xuan Market. At breakfast we met the Fowler family who were also from Adelaide and Port supporters. Updated the blog after breakfast. It was Showdown day so Kevin was listening to the radio up until game time. I went to the supermarket and bought a few things that we needed. We set up the live stream on the computer and hooked it into the TV so I could watch as well. Game going well til half time and I headed off to the supermarket again to grab some small containers to put some sunblock and moisturizer for our Halong Bay trip. I met Kevin on my way back to the hotel. The game had got close and he couldn’t watch anymore. I continued back and had to set up the streaming again. Took a good 20 min because the internet kept dropping out. Kevin came back as the game finished. Well done to PORT POWER. We had booked a Hanoi Kids Food Tour for 6pm and Mr Tony and Ms Oc arrived promptly. Mr Tony had an amazing American accent which was surprising. He explained that he watched American movies and TV and that his sister went to college in USA. We discussed what type of foods we wanted to try and so off we headed to our first stop which was a pork porridge (chao suon sun). We were both impressed with the dish, it was yummy. From here we wondered around as Tony lost his bearings and finally we arrived at our next stop for Chinese pork noodle soup (hu tiu).   Again it was an amazing dish. I am so surprised that Kevin liked it. By now we are quite full so instead of another full dish we went for mixed fruit with condensed milk and ice. We finished off with an ice milk with coffee (bac xiu). It cost a total of VND$405k or A$25 for all 4 of us.
