Set off early again and went into the Ancient Town and wondered the streets. Went down to the city square and third bridge, past the Japanese Covered Bridge (is centuries old) and across the river and back to the second bridge and home again. In Cam Chau village I saw a couple of men making roofing tiles. This was done by hand using a mould and cement with a grooved plate being slid over to create the grooves and the second man smoothed the edges and then placed it on drying racks. Asked if I could take a picture and went into their yard to do so. They smiled and waved. Went to the beach again and as it was Sunday we went a little earlier to ensure we got a good spot at Soul Kitchen. Fortunately we did because they put reserve signs on the really good spots but we got one. Met an older couple of women, in their 70’s from Napier NZ (Merle and Ngira) and they were travelling with one of the daughters and her husband for 2 months. They were lawn bowlers and we chatted for quite a while about their trip so far in Hanoi, Sarpa and Halong Bay. We ordered lunch again and Kevin stuck with his French fries and I had a bagette with ham, cheese, tomato and lettuce. Was yummy. Went back to Phoung the tailor and my dress still wasn’t right. She had made a new one so some more alterations needed. Kevin decided to get another pair of shorts and a shirt made. Ms Le (hotel owner) had asked us to go to the local tailor as she again wanted to have a dress and a shirt for Kevin made for us. Vang took us and we had our measurements taken. It is the same local tailor as the past 2 years. When we got back we went with Vang to a local homestay next to her rooms in Cam Chau and had a look at what is available. It was a nice large room with king and king single beds, separate bathroom. Includes breakfast and the use of all the families facilities including kitchen and laundry. There was an area out the front of the house for sitting. They will eventually knock down Vang’s room and build a garden which is off the side of the house. Cost $35 a night. Still more than what we want to pay if we are here for 2-3 months. Tight wads that we are we only want to pay $500 pm max. We sat outside our bungalow and had a couple of drinks late in the avo. Kevin was disappointed in Ports performance as they had their chances but had a poor second quarter. We went on one bike to Ganesh, Indian Restaurant for tea . There is a Ganesh in Nha Trang and HCMC and we have eaten at the one in Nha Trang each year as well as this one in Hoi An. Kevin ordered the chicken tikka masala medium heat and he said it was the best meal he had had in all of Vietnam which is a bold statement. I had the chicken korma mild heat. Our meal bill was 278,000 dong ie $13.90. We wondered up the street a little as it was a busy main street with lots of tailors and many were empty but others had a stream of people. When we got back we watched a little of the men’s Wimbledon final.
