SHADY ACRES CLAIMS TO BE THE GULF Coast’s friendliest RV Resort. We will have to wait a bit before we can form an opinion. We moved from Naples to Ft. Meyers on Thursday afternoon and left for Rockledge, sans 5th wheel, on Friday morning. Old friends Bob and Betty from NJ are visiting Rod and Lois and we’re having a mini-reunion.
Bob and Rod were out playing golf when we arrived at noon but, truth be told, we were more excited to see Lois and Betty. Betty had just retired from M&M Mars and this was their first retirement trip. Bob’s plan, for the first year at least, is to take advantage of the largess of friends, Rod and Lois being the first. (We are exempt, due to our tiny abode and the difficulty of locating us at any moment in time.)
Betty, Lois and Connie — our better halfs
We had planned on staying in a nearby motel but Lois said they had plenty of room if we didn’t mind the fold-out bed. No problema. It was wonderful to sit and talk and drink even though we had seen B&B in September and R&L at Thanksgiving. And it’s interesting to see how our memories of events differ. Fifty-some years can do that!
Who gets the Yellow Jersey?
Lois has been in a wheelchair for a decade or so but remains active. She has become a master of her hand bike and competes (or at least completes) a half-marathon or two every year. And Rod, the King of Craigslist, has accumulated enough bikes for everyone. So it was natural that we would take a nice bike ride on the trails around their neighborhood.
Too many chefs
Bob, a former restauranteur, still has the magic touch in the kitchen and replenishing our carbohydrates was no problem. Wine and beer took care of our vitamin C and electrolytes. A weekend to savor.
