Chicken bus after Antigua arrival

Chicken bus after Antigua arrival

I never saw any chickens on the "chicken buses" and neither did any of my fellow students.[Typical chicken bus pulling out at Antigua bus terminal as we arrived]. Therefore, I have another idea behind the origin of the name. As I have mentioned the conductors who drive the buses seem to have the twin objectives of trying to see how fast they can make the final destination and to see how close they can come to rolling the bus over on road curves. Because they pass slower cars, trucks and other buses on one or two lane raods with what seems to be reckless, I am thinking "chicken bus" means a bus whose driver uses it to play "chicken'" with other vehicles coming head-on or being passed on curves and narrow roads anywhere in Guatemala.
