Day 11

AUSTRALIA | Sunday, 26 June 2011 | Views [298]

We made an early start  today as we were heading for Glen Helen Gorge (132km from Alice Springs). Our first stop was at Serpentine Gorge ( a very rough road into the gorge) where without realising the climb involved we decided to head up to the lookout. It was a rocky, gravelly climb that got the heart pumping and the legs shaky but the view was worth it. After climbing down again we walked to the picturesque waterhole which was very peaceful with the gums, running water and stone hill faces. The next stop was Ormiston Gorge followed by Glen Helen where we had lunch. The buildings there remind me of NT buildings from the 1950s. Ellery Big Hole was next followed by a very short stop at Stanley Chasm which was just about to be closed for the day. Tonight we had strawberry Pancakes from the Sweets Van in the park.
