Incapirca ruins and Cuenca

Just hanging out at the ruins.

Just hanging out at the ruins.

Stayed the night in a dodgy hostel overlooking the Incapirca ruins (the best ruins in Ecuador) these were built around the 1500s before the spanish came in a obilterated everything and everyone.

Pretty impressive considering it was built 3,150 metres above sealevel and with the tools they had to work with. It was built alone the Incan highway (the Panamerican of their day), wandered through early in the morning and then popped on a few buses to reach Cuenca (third biggest town in Ecuador at 600,000folks) it's market day tomorrow which will be fun to wander through and our last chance to buy essentials like dictionaries and peanut butter before hitting the smaller towns for a while - we're reach the border in the next day or 2 (attempting to avoid the public holiday in Peru on the 6th but will probably reach it on that day knowing us)

Cuenca is a cool colonial town, very pretty, mucho churches. There's a river that passes throught the middle of town that the locals still wash their clothes in and leave them to dry on the side of the riverbank. Kinda sad because they can't afford washing machines but nice that they're unencumbered by our busy society.

Gotta go and find peanut butter and mangos.
