My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

My name is Tom McGeehan, I am 22 and I am originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Joe Strummer famously said ‘Without people, we’re nothing’. This is a quote which I feel inspires and contextualises my photography. Documenting and interacting with people from all over the world is one of the most vital things for a photographer to do, for without this experience, there is no true appreciation of a difference in culture between one person to the next. A film camera gifted to me by my father is one of my most vivid memories as a child, as the appreciation I had then for creating images I see mentally first and phyically second, is something which has stuck with me to this day. Since then I have documented elements of nature, music, travel, and politics. I feel I would make the best of this incredible chance to travel and work with esteemed professionals because every interaction, every lesson, and every bit of advice will be embraced and cherished, in the hope that they will better me as a photographer, and give me the chance to achieve things within the field of photography.
