My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Photography is a new dimension I have encountered while completing my Masters in Peace and Conflict Resolution that shares the story after war photographers leave a conflict zone. I will begin my PhD in September to focus on the Visual aspects of Peacebuilding in Post-conflict Settings. From a Peace Studies perspective, the narrative that takes place after the conflict is over is vital to ensuring sustainable peace. Those stories need to be documented and shared, just as much as the horrific images of suffering and war.
As a beginner photographer, I am constantly learning the true power of photography to capture a story, share common experiences while spreading awareness to those around the world. Imagery can cut across literacy levels, language diversity and even generational divides. The medium of photography can assist in the healing process and promote recognition of those who experience war and trauma.
This scholarship will enhance my theoretical visual and peace research through practical application. I am eager to be mentored by a professional photographer to fully grasp the story-telling abilities of photography.
