Feeling ill at altitude

PERU | Friday, 19 September 2008 | Views [317]

On the 12th September we got another Cruz del Sur overnight bus to Cusco.  Thankfully this one did not stink and there were no moments where we were close to vomiting. This was quite lucky as neither of us felt that well anyway.  We had picked up a lovely little tummy bug with the usual results.  Anyway we got to Cusco.  It´s a nice enough town, surprisingly small but very, very touristy.  On top of the stomach bug which we both had for a few days I got a bit of altitude sickness and spent one whole night feeling like I was going to die.  It took about 5 days until I felt myself again.  Even after being at altitude for a week it´s still really difficult to do anything.  There is just no air!  Dave of course wants to be all action man and start climbing  mountains.  We stayed in a really nice hostel called Hostal Central.  The old guy that runs it is very friendly and calls me and Dave his ´distinguished guests´!
