My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, November 6, 2011 | 5 photos

Photography means for me adventure, but a very challenging adventure, one which requires patience, sensitivity, tact, concentration and attention. When I look at the world through my camera, choose the frame, compose images, I wonder what will I attain, what message I will transmit.

If I travel with a camera, I see the world differently. Setting off with a camera to photograph the city, people, or some scenes, I try to be focused on detail. I'm looking, observing, choosing. Because photography for me is about the detail, about the composition of the detail, it’s an attempt to find in it a metaphor, symbolic and to provoque a reflection. I want to show my knowledge about the world through it; I want my picture to matter.

I’m 27. I come from Eastern Europe, from a region, which is probably the poorest part of Poland and perhaps even Europe. Life forced me to move and look for job abroad but I think that yearning for that simple and – as we would say today - poorly developed land shaped my attitude towards the world: I feel happy in poor countries, because they somehow remind me of home.

I’m far away from being a professional photographer but I’m absolutely passionate about travels and discovering the world. Traveling creates in me many emotions which I am trying to express through my pictures. I would love Jason to give me a chance to learn some real photography techniques to do it even better.
