Up early to get to the airport for Seychelles!!! James was missing, he is usually early so when he was not outside at 6:30 it was a little scary...Since we have no way of reaching him, I start to assemble plan b and how to get a taxi...About 6:50 he pulls in all dirty, he had a flat and had to change it....oh, I am afraid to ask...but yup, sure enough same tire....must be me...
Off we go, streets are quiet today, Sunday morning, glad I am traveling today. Get to the airport and the line at Kenya Airways is HUGE...out the door and around the corner...bummer...get thru security and inside and find the short line for luggage drop off for online check ins...yay me...get up there and check my 2 bags..so as not to go over the limit per bag.. and find out the plane is delayed for an hour and a half....
I am forced to wander the concourse for Kenya Airways and shop, window shop that is..it is very hot in this airport..so I park on the floor and wait. I window shop for Tanzanite, I would love a stone, they are so beautiful and rare, much better prices in the airport , makes me wonder so I don't buy, I do find a gorgeous big dark stone..it is $3450...but it was fun to look!!
Finally we go...It is a 3 hour flight over the Indian Ocean, and then the islands appear, they are beautiful! We land in Mahe the main island and the largest, I do not leave the airport, claim my bags and head over to domestic flights and pay 65 euros and catch the next flight to praslin on the little air bus... it is a 15 minute trip for touchdown into paradise. The prices of hotels in the Seychelles has increased at an alarming rate as more tourists discover them, rooms that were $40 us a couple years`ago are now $180-200. The nice places are all well over $1000 a night with some $4500 a night...I have sent out some emails to see if I can get better rates saying I will be opening a luxury tgravel agency and wanting to be able to use their hotel, it got my rate down from 495 euros to 225 euros at one place but they had no rooms available.....Tonight I will be staying at Le Relax a 10 room place on the beach.
I catch a taxi for a less than 5 minute drive to Le Relax. It is small and run by an Indian family, the rooms are nice and big and just fine, they have a pool and free wireless access, not fancy but small and quiet.I go for a quiet walk on the beach and watch the sunset, the water is soooo warm, it is like a bath, there are no waves on Grand Anse beach, no listening to the surf.
I eat dinner at the restaurant at the hotel tonight it has indian and creole food, I have pork chops in a fish and mushroom sauce, sounds a little funky but it was delicious..no tonic here so I had gin and sprite...just not the same.
