Guatemala: Phoenix School rises from the ashes.

GUATEMALA | Tuesday, 29 September 2009 | Views [3459] | Comments [1]

Enrique Nunez MussaofSantiago, Chile and winner of our 2009 Podcast Scholarship visits “Phoenix School” run by volunteers in the Mayan community of San Andres de Itzapa, Guatemala.  Set against a backdrop of hills, volcanoes and crowing cockerels, the makeshift school consists of 6 classrooms with dirt floors and limited resources.  There he meets the vibrant children, local teachers and volunteer westerners  who have all been touched by the school.  He is charmed by the spirit of the community and in particular by Elena Siquinajay, who’s dream is becoming a reality.
