My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

I have always enjoyed looking at the world around me and seeing life as a rapid series of beautiful photos to be experienced and enjoyed. I was first inspired by my mother and her old Pentax manual camera that she has used since she was my age and still uses today. I have finally moved to the digital world but often miss the weight and feel of a manual camera and the most minute adjustments needed to create the perfect shot. Travelling and photography are synonymous. When exploring a new place, I am endlessly searching for a unique angle, taking photos of new and delicious cuisine or ornate details of buildings standing high above. I am especially drawn to the people in places that I travel. To know a place in its truest form is to know the people, the heartbeat of city. Last year I married my husband who is from Monterrey, Mexico. Because of him, I am learning how beautiful this country is and wanted to discover more about him by exploring his country. We travelled to several southern states in Mexico for our honeymoon, on a two thousand kilometre road trip – it was the most eye-opening and exhilarating and unique experience that I have had and we hope to return again in the future.
