My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

Playa Paraiso (Tabasco, Mexico). On the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, we discovered this little paradise lined with palm trees, and not one hotel in sight. I wanted to capture the innocence and pure happiness of the local people enjoying an almost untouched beach.

Parque la Venta in Villahermosa (Tabasco, Mexico). This figurine was sitting on top of a display in the Parque la Venta and stands about 2 inches in height. The park includes many monuments created during the Olmec civilization including the world famous Colossal Heads. This small figure struck me ever more than the large heads that stand over nine feet tall.

San Cristobal de las Casas (Chiapas, Mexico). A common site in Chiapas' capital city; women with several children in tow, mingled with tourists, their arms full of bracelets, necklaces and beautiful handmade artwork. Especially striking was this young boy. Although clinging to his mother now, in just a few years, he will likely be walking on his own, perhaps with several friends, his arms then full of his own handmade treasures.
