This morning Ron and I got up early to drive to Huddersfield, to pick up Jeremy at 7am. He had travelled by bus from London, taking 7 hours!!! We decided to leave Sam in bed as she had her interview in Manchester in the afternoon and needed to be bright eyed and bushy tailed.
It was a miserable morning, pouring with rain, but the bus was only a few minutes late. It was lovely to see Jeremy and we were delighted that he had taken the time to come and see us. He has been travelling around Europe (Greece, Malta, Sicily, Portugal, Spain (where he ran with the bulls!!) and France}. He had managed to sleep on the bus (oh to be young!) but was hungry, so when we got home we had a proper English breakfast. Huddersfield is only about a half hour drive from Netherthong, so we were home before 8am.
Later in the morning we headed off to Manchester. Sam's interview (with British Water Polo, for the position of World Class Programme Manager) was to be held at Bewleys Hotel at Manchester Airport. Our Tom Tom didn't like this and tried to take us anywhere but - so we had to override him!! After we had determined how to get Sam to the hotel, we went off in search of lunch, after which we took Sam back to the hotel and the three of us had a doze in the carpark!
Sam was pleased with the interview as the job entails much the same sort of work she has been doing in motorsport, but won't hear until early next week. Fingers crossed as she thinks she'd really enjoy the job. She would have to move from Leamington to Manchester, but that wouldn't be too much of a chore.
When Sam rejoined us, we drove to Manchester United's ground (Old Trafford - in Sir Matt Busby Way). What an incredible complex it is - massive car park, huge Mega Store. There is a sculpture of George Best, Denis Law and Bobby Charlton outside the car park and a statue of Sir Matt Busby outside the complex. After we had walked around the store, we went on a tour of the Museum. This year is the 50th Anniversary of the Munich air crash, in which 7 members of the team and several journalists were killed - those of you old enough to remember, will probably never forget it. There were many poignant reminders in the museum, including copies of the newspapers of the day. One thing that annoyed us was that there was absolutely no mention of David Beckham, surely one of their most famous players. We asked why, and one of the staff explained that Real Madrid, the team Beckham went to from Man. U. had the intellectual property rights to his name, property, etc. However, now that he has left Real Madrid, they are hoping they will be able to display things relating to him in the near future. Apparently, he often pops in to see them all, which is nice.
After a good look around, we headed home but sadly, before we had gone too far, we came to a hold up which turned out to be a horrendous crash, involving several vehicles. We didn't see exactly what had happened as we had to turn around and find a different (and longer) route, but we did see all the police cars and ambulances at the scene.
