A far off place

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

United Kingdom | Monday, January 7, 2013 | 3 photos

A trip to Norway that could have ended in longish phases of boredom and repeated fights with my then new boyfriend was saved by and brought me to photography. While said boyfriend went fishing for hours at a time, I started to take pictures and suddenly everything around me seemed to be much more interesting. Experimenting with different angels and compositions would change not only the picture but also my own way of seeing the place. When I got back home I didn’t stop, but soon I started to feel like I needed better equipment. I still don’t have it! Being a student I just couldn’t afford a fancy camera. Instead I started to experiment with old analog cameras and concentrated on capturing, not the best shot of a certain place but on capturing atmosphere and feelings. Still, I’d very much like to learn what it means to be working with a ‘real’ camera. It is my hope, that if I was chosen for the scholarship I would gain experience at finding stories and capturing them. So that I can tell them by showing pictures. This is also what I want to give back to society. Because from my experience there is always a story that needs to be told and always someone that dearly needs to hear one.
