    The thousands of sheep inhabiting the island and providing a living for their owners seem to be the only ones who have always lived here and never wasted a thought on leaving. In fact they are so used to people passing by not noticing them that once you stop to take a picture they get all timid and frightened, like this one hiding in the tall grass. by: remote_isle Views[121] At the same time a distinct feeling of remoteness will creep in. Combined with the harshness of the surrounding environment that makes you feel small compared to nature it will trigger an understanding as to why so many people have left these islands in the course of centuries. The small deserted hut in front of the vast ocean seemed to provide a perfect picture of these feelings. by: remote_isle Views[190] At the very edge of Europe the Outer Hebrides are a beautiful composition of rock, sand and moorlands that has been braving storms and winds for thousands of years and with it its inhabitants. Visiting the Callanish Standing Stones on a cold morning in January, the frozen ground crackling under each and every step, they evoke a feeling of curiosity for the isles early settlers and their mysterious culture. by: remote_isle Views[445]
