Elena and Jarrett get to go up the volcano, Pacaya, the easy way, while the rest of us hike.
My favorite day in Guatemala so far has been when we went to Pacaya, an active volcano. Jarrett and I got to ride horses up to the recently-cooled lava. My horse's name was Camaron, which means "shrimp" because he was a small horse. Jarrett's was named Tormento. It was the first time either of us has ridden a horse. When we got to the lava, it was really rough and we had to be careful with every step we took. There were cracks in the lava that glowed orange and red that we got to roast marshmallows over (see other photos in the gallery). The way back down the volcano on the horses was faster and bumpier than the way up, but it was a really fun day!
