    Grandfather, as he is known, takes a moment after a long hard day. A rare picture of hime without a smile. He is almost always ready with a joke or a laugh. Curious as a cat, he wanted to know why two women were traveling alone and if I was married. I managed to convey to him that I wasn't. With a twinkle in his eyes and mischief in his smile, he asked back, This young shepherd wanted me to take his picture and show it to him. With a flailing economy, an extremely devalued currency and little scope of work, the young are caught between the the need to spread their wings and taking up whatever work that comes their way. by: priyak Views[186] Work division is key within the group with each member entrusted with certain responsibilities. However old ways struggle to survive in the age of modernisation. With every passing day, there are fewer takers for the fresh produce that the cowherds send to the markets. by: priyak Views[190] Every summer, cowherds from in and around the Tonekebon area in the north-west of Iran leave their families behind and migrate to the hills with their cattle. They demarcate areas, build rustic shanties and set up an operation that includes producing milk, butter and cheese by: priyak Views[186] Stray cows on the run is the most exciting sight to see in the untouched depths of the Alborz mountains in the north-west of Iran.
