About priyak
I love climbing mountains. Most people ask me, “Why bother when you have to come down anyways?” Truth is - the uncertainty that comes with the journey makes me more aware, responsible and more determined to go the distance. With every step forward, with every memory I create, I learn something new. On most days, I am just humbled by what I see and all that I am yet to discover. This is why I climb, this is why I travel and this is why I choose to explore the unexplored.
My love affair with the camera began in the Himalayas when I was 16. The camera unwittingly became a companion I could turn to when I stepped into another’s world. What started out as a need to merely record experiences soon led to an abiding love in stories – telling them and discovering new ones. The travels with my camera have moved beyond the mountains; they have taken me all across India, to places outside of it like Sri Lanka, Nepal, Japan, Sweden, the UK and more recently even to Iran where an unplanned visit soon turned into a road-trip across the north-west of the country.
The encounters with my camera have also become an exercise in self-awareness; photography helps me look beyond stereotypes, even draw closer to places, its people and seek out memories that help me learn and grow and add value into the lives of the people around me.
