The first of the challenges that I set myself back in 2010 is complete. I have traveled in my van to the 4 Cardinal points of the EU. In the North it was to Nourgam , (N70⁰ 05.364’ E027⁰56.778’)Finland to reach the most Northerly point in the EU. However, I also visited 2 other Northern Points, firstly North Cape(71⁰10.146’E025⁰46.770’) which is known as the most Northerly point but as it is in Norway, a non EU member and on an Island I had to consider other alternatives. I made the decision to go to the most Northerly point in Western Europe accessible by van, which was Slettness (71⁰05.309’E028⁰13.074’) near Gamvik also in Norway, (None of these are the actual North point but the real one was a 3 mile hike and I had just had hip surgery) but it was as far North as I shall ever drive! The next point was also in Finland and I took a chance with not getting a permit and went to the Eastern most point (N62⁰54.506’E031⁰35.004’) on the Russian Border near a town called Ilomantsi. The Southernmost point is in Spain, near Tarifa, The actual point is inside a military base but I got close at N36.00579⁰W005.60904⁰ (sorry about the change of format). Finally I arrived at the Westernmost point at Cap Roc (N38⁰46.837’W009⁰29.869’).
