We've arrived in Christchurch!

We landed a couple of hours ago and are staying in a little suburb called New Brighton.

New Brighton's on the banks of the river Avon and even has a little bike shop called John's cycles.  Weird!  If we decide that we like it here, I'll pop in and see if they need any help in their workshop.

Initial impressions are good. and it's very much like home.  It's very green and lush here, and the roads and towns are just like home.  People drive normal sized vehicles and we're back on the left hand side of the road.

Lisa's having a snooze to get rid of the hazy jet lag feeling while I type.  Going to wake her up in a minute so we can go and explore.

The flight itself wasn't anywhere near as arduous as I'd anticipated.  The total travelling time was about 22 hours, but we got lucky in the plane and had emergency exit seats so we could stretch our legs out.

It's about 18 degrees today and windy.  Everything's in bloom and it feels really springlike.

I shall take some pictures during our explorations today and show you guys what it's like.

Love!

Hello fella,

Wow I've just been looking through your last few post's, sounds like your having a great (and busy) time.... Good things in NZ (only my opinion) = New World supermarket bakery treat's...(esp. Sugar Buns), Phoenix Ginger Beer, Nice small towns = Nelson (up and across a bit from Christchurh, it's a bit outdoorsie and is near Abel Tasman Trail which is good for a few days of walking between basic huts, or take a boat along the coast and walk back!) Wanaka = Down south, it's around the corner'ish from Queenstown (which is a bit built up and commercial for me) nice small place, big lake, couple of bikeshops/hire places if you need work, also great Mexican resturant (upstairs) on the road in, opposite a servo' (with a Margarita happy hour!!, "take away" is as good as "eat in" option)
lots of other stuff that I'm sure you'll find.... :) hopefully see you in AU soon. Pete.

sounds great. good to hear you've arrived in the heart of S. Island - what a lovely part of the world. I agree with previous comment that Wanaka and Nelson are great little towns (I even struggled my way round the Wanaka half marathon many years ago). So many good places to discover. Walk as much as you can - there are some amazing routes. enjoy the summer - it's getting cold and dark up here!
