The shortest job hunt ever

IRELAND | Friday, 9 January 2009 | Views [475] | Comments [2]

I rang the group on Wednesday, was interviewed on Thursday, got a phone call Friday morning to say I've gotten the job and that I start on Monday! JC would be impressed - no fluffing around what-so-ever. So my mission this weekend is to cram in as much sightseeing as I can, because besides a whole lot of wandering aimlessly around the city, I haven't done any official touristy things.

I've walked endlessly up and down the Liffey, yet only today realised how low it was and that I could literally see the stones at the bottom of the river peaking through. I walked past the GPO building where the Easter Rising in 1916 took place and I read the plaque of the speech that was given there. I wondered around the north part of the city reading the signs that point out the significance from James Joyce's novels. I found a street called Cecilia Street and took a photo of the sign (not much significance to many people outside the family). But officially, I have not paid a cent (or euro) to see anything.

So the plan tomorrow - Trinity College and the Book of Kells and the National Museum, and if I can convince someone else at the hostel this weekend we might just visit the Jamison Whisky Distillery and sample a bit.

I guess if I end up doing not much else this weekend - I can go away with the knowledge that I can now tell the difference between a Georgian era building and a Victorian era building - just ask me!

Chatting to a couple of "on holiday" RCSC teachers and was told about this site so just had to catch up on your adventures. Know exactly what you mean re weather in London - we got back to sunny Mildura Thursday. Pleased to see the Irish can recognise talent when they see it. Very interested to hear how the "school" situation compares - Cheers Marg

Surely it wouldn't be that hard to convince someone to visit the distillery with you! There's many here wishing we could go with you. Cheers.
