Andy's Travel Updates "The real thing is not reaching, the real thing is the journey, the very travelling. If you are too bothered about the goal you will miss the journey, and the journey is life - the goal can only be death."

London

Christmas For Christmas I went to Scotland where I was totally spoilt by relatives, most of whom I had never met. I didn't count but I think I got a dozen presents including a football jersey and a year's supply of toiletries. Between this, the food and visiting Dalry - the small town where my Grandma grew up (and married my Grandpa) – I felt very much at home. Living in London London, as a city, I like. There is always something to do thanks to the endless supply of restaurants, bars and tourist sites (cliché I know – but it's the only way to describe it). I am getting on well with flatmates and know enough people around to keep me happy. I've noticed in moving to a different city that you have to make lots of little decisions (about where and how you will live, who you will be around etc) which amount to deciding what is important to you. Working in London I had an one interesting job interview - on the whole I did okay but at one point was asked a basic question which I couldn't answer – in response the guy said (thinking aloud, not being nasty) 'It's unfortunate that you obviously don't know anything about statutory reporting'. As the job was all about preparing statutory reports I pretty well knew where I stood. I had a phone call half an hour later – presumably because of the impression made by my new and very spiffy suit, because it obviously had little to do with what I said – offering me the job. Which I accepted, then unaccepted the following day much to the disgust of the recruitment agent. I am now working in a budget control role (not too sure what that means yet) for an advertising company – through a friend of my boss from Harris Black. It's a very steep learning curve, but when I need a break I spin around on my chair. I was going to say spin around and look at Big Ben/London Eye, but that's not as funny. Travel I am planning on doing day/weekend trips every other weekend (so let me know if you have any suggestions for places I should see) a nd possibly a month of travel after this contract (April/May) at the moment thinking of going to Greece, Czech Republic & Croatia. Writing long emails Sorry for the long email. Changing my name In London I am Andy – it started by accident but I am running with it for a while. Andy
