I was looking forward to Denali National Park. It's one of the largest nature preserves in Alaska and home of Mt. Mckinley, highest peak in the Alaskan Ranges. However, the weather dampened the excitement. We took a 6 hour bus ride around the park on a very grey day and only saw some hares, two golden eagles and possibly some goats (perhaps it was snow, who knows) and maybe a deer and a moose. All little specks on the mountainside and by the river, far far in the distance. Even with binoculars you weren't quite sure if you were just imagining things. The skies did clear up a little, but by then our windows were so mud streaked, the beautiful scenery outside still looked murky. Such a pity. Things did get better with white water rafting later.
