I wanted to write earlier, but life in Sicilia and Calabria was just too sweet. The plan was, as some of you know, to go to Moldovia and work in a hostel for 3 weeks. But Italia and a cous cous festival came in the way. And honestly I prefer 30 degrees and up for 10-20 :) For the last month I been with pleasant company and free translation in form of Jess(-ica). Without her I would most likely be lost somewhere crazy, oh no we did end crazy places.. But i wouldn't have seen Southern Italia the same way if at all:)
We started with a couple of days in Napoli. We were told that there would be a huge bonfire with bands and hundreds of people - in reality there was 10-15 people, no music and no fire. Another group of people left the beach when their fire was close to dead and we took over the dying fire:D.
This is really difficult! There are too many great stories from the last month and just last few days. Monday morning I started from Milazzo, Sicilia to go to Wroclaw, Poland. After and hours wait for my second ride in Reggio Calabria an olderguy in a jeep picks my up and starting with a ride to Modena. After 15 minutes of driving he offers to take me all the way to Budapest! He is going to Romania and is passing any way. And from having no place to sleep for a week I have a ride 2000 km with free food and a roof over my head! First nights dinner is a kilo of fresh mozzarella and bread just outside of Rome.
Sicilia was amazing. The food was mindblowing, the nature stunning (when not filled with garbage), and the people hospitable, crazy even if I didn't understand much italian. The animals are another story - they are mean, thieving, and destroyers! One night we ended up camping in Marina di Ragusa at the beach. There was a not of noises from the sea, wind and animals, so my sleep was pretty bad from the paranoia. And rightly so.. In the early morning I wake up and look out the tent to discover my boots are missing. The one boot is 1-2 meters from the tent, but the other one is vanished! In 2 rounds (totally for 1 hour) I look all over the place. Just before giving up I find it chewed up! The evil rabbits freaking ate my shoe!! So I'm now wearing a halfway eaten shoe on my right foot.
