My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
Worldwide | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 | 4 photos
I moved to Washington DC a few months ago and as a new resident I went to visit some of the monuments including the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. I got curious and interested as I saw people from all over the world stopping, looking and photographing the wall. Only a few people would actually take a moment, stand back, and really look at the memorial, but most just rushed through it as if it was just another pathway to a “better” memorial. So I decided to go back a few more times to photograph this interaction of people with the memorial wall.
Photo 1. A volunteer hands out sheets for etching names of fallen soldiers.
Photo 2. Names spread along the wall.
Photo 3. Searching for a name.
Photo 4. An old woman being rolled in a wheelchair passes by quickly as she glances at the wall.
About me
I am an amateur photographer who loves photography but would love to advance my ability of story telling through images. I love photography for its timeless ability to capture one moment and bring it out raw to the world. I have an immense patience and thirst for learning and a passion for travel. I moved to the U.S. when I was 20 to study and I have lived here ever since.
I hope one day to be able to make photographs that can tell a story about a place and its surroundings that can be shared with the world and bring some awareness to it. As a longer term goal for the future I would love to pass on the knowledge to other amateur photographers that share the same passion for photography as I have.
