    Croatia - Istria

    Built under Caesar's instructions in the early 1st century, this is the sixth largest colosseum in the world. So alluring was the structure in those days (and even now) that the Venetians wanted to take away and rebuild it, piece by piece in Venice. Gladiatorial battles were staged here, just as they were at the Colosseum in Rome. Are we really in Croatia???

    correct: Trieste is town in Italy, not croatian region. Pula, Rovinj... is in region og Istria (Croatia). Maria: Thanks Tome. We have made the necessary changes to our diary.
