Our Casa: Sala de Tatuje

Our last night in our family's home, it was transformed into a tattoo parlor. William, a friend of the family, is here with his family, traveling the "feria (fair) circuit" practicing his art and trade on active clients. Last night he showcased his artwork at the grand opening of a new local bar, along with several other tattoo artists. Pablo, the eldest son in the family that we are staying with is a pretty cool guy, finishing university and continuing to grow this graphic design and advertising business. Between his creative ideas and William's body art talents, they have designed a Mayan Art tattoo for Pablo that we watched from concept drawings to skin design. William did a terrific job on Pablo, and after show casing Pablo's tattoo at the show last night, he managed to reel in some new clients, and thus, the lounge area outside our bedroom has become a professional studio right before our eyes. Clients come in for consultations and to peruse the books of full color shots of other pieces of body art that William proudly displays. William, his wife, and daughter, all from El Salvador, were all pretty cool. She made us special treats our last night - papooses which are yummy corn tortillas filled with cheese and beans. I gave the family a yoga lesson before we headed out for our last night in Xela. It feels good to know this is the last time we'll be using the filthy bathroom which now houses all the dirty tattoo needles in the sink.
