DAY 2 - Copenhagen, Denmark - covering a lot of ground

DENMARK | Thursday, 24 September 2009 | Views [681]

Checking out of the Selandia hotel near Tivoli, I transferred to another hotel nearby called the Cabinn City something'r other. It's like a dorm, with a familiar adolescent charm, but it was recommended to me by a buddy in Germany, thanks :-) The internet site advertised bicycle rental in the description, but the receptionist told me that they really don't have em and that 3rd party booking sites often don't update their pages.  Bummer.  OH well, a quick peek through the visitors guide gave me some good information including places to see fist. Today I chose the Royal Danish Armory Museum, The underground ruins of the first castle built there, and me giving myself a tour through Christiansborg Palace, which was burned three times.

Bought myself a new hoodie because the zipper broke again for the 034804304839th time. H&M is top spot for cheap clothes that look good and last, about 2 months.

I needed to do a little sight seeing with my discount card or I've just wasted 350DK on the damn thing.  Taking the bus was a good idea because I wanted to get over to Nørrebro and see what was so special about it. The Circle The vibe was comfortable, still there are tons of bicyclists going merry-go-round everywhere but that's what added to the hustle and bustle.  I finally found a barber in the area to cut my hair at a reasonable price, I didn't realize that my electric clippers have a different voltage incompatibility in Europe, otherwise I just usually do it myself.

Well I look better and not homeless, I think he just ripped me off.

185 for a cut and beard trim, other places charged 100. :-/ no regrets, mistakes lead to wisdom, in most cases.

I walked the entire way up to Nørrebro St. station and the sky looked like doom this evening, eventually rained but mostly on and off showers.  But I've gotta say that people watching on that street is so interesting, I bought so many apples too and they were simply the best apples I've ever had ! Everything tastes so much better to me, now I think preservatives suck compared to the kinds of foods I've been trying.

I found this store called Netto market, I think it's someone of an equivalent to Bonus in Iceland, how I missss youuuu BONUSS !

Copenhagen is so beautiful, "wonderful wonderful CopenHOGan" (heh Kevin) I felt an instant 'at home' feeling walking around today, I'm not even sure where I'll end up for a while, one day at a time.  Again, the bikes are everywhere, and this morning I wanted to rent one but decided to go museum hunting instead, and not waste the bike money.  Tomorrow though. yes I will.

The city's history far precedes America and it's completely different here.  It really does remind me of, what if Boston and Cambridge were merged, take out the Starbucks and add a million bicyclists.  Boston already has it's history, Copenhagen is much more interesting to me now.

So far I haven't really stuck up a conversation with anybody, this is the one thing I'm going to say about Copenhagen is that I don't see anybody out there having a talk, a sentimental moment, sharing a hug, or anything like that. It's strange to me, I used to see that all the time.  I did, however, see someone collapse and pass out in Copenhagen's Grand Central Station on the first day I arrived.

As always I'm excited to eat breakfast in the morning, included with my dorm room.  So funny, now that I think about it, I went from checking into a three-star hotel in Reykjavik, on ACCIDENT (booking error) and payed probably $200 less what I really should have for this mega swanky room.  Then I tried a different hotel after I came back from camp, and that was a two-star hotel with a zebra print, leather hooker motiff. I liked it.  Then I crashed with Haffie for the remaining days.

Yesterday was the Selandia hotel and now tonight it's the Cabbin City hotel.  I just keep jumpin' around ! None of the couchsurfing people who I've been writing to are writing me back. :-(

It's Wednesday, not really time to go out and party yet, and besides money goes quickly in this town. Also, I either lost my camera today or someone stole it out of my bag, I don't know which.  The only time I set my bag down was for to get my haircut, and I could even see it in the mirror so I don't know.  It's gone now, with tons of memories.  GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.  learn from mistakes. sigh.

I'm at my room now, binged ate on apples and bananas, sure wishing I had a Gnutella sandwhich in my hand right about now.  Some dude outside my window has a really annoying yet goofy laugh.

I'll save my money for tomorrow, I've gotta buy bread and sandwich meat, stuff to make for myself for the entire day, lunch, snack and dinner.

Hey this weekend will probably be nice, get to go out and see what's happening in the party world. I'm looking forward to that.
