Spent the morning in Santa Marta before getting a jeep to Minca. From Minca we then endured the moto taxi ride from hell in torrential rain, on muddy trails for about 45 minutes up to Casa Elemento. The tiny hostel tucked up in the mountains with the worlds largest hammock was raved up by our trekking buddies so we were keen to check it out.
Since we weren't going to take the three hour hike in the rain option we had to go with the moto taxis. Giving us their helmets, the drivers had our big packs resting on the bike handle bars, us & small packs on the back & managed to get us incident free up 2-3kms on mud trails in a storm. While we were ringing wet & so was everything we owned we arrived at Elemento on one piece & good spirits.
One of the hostel owners, Andrew, handed us hot cups of Colombian coffee on arrival & inducted us to the Elemento way. We were to have family dinner with everyone each night & not only was there the giant hammock but also a hidden jungle hammock equally as amazing that we could chill out in.
Raz from our trek and another sure aril mate of his ended up joining us at Elemento & we & the staff all spent the avo watching sunset and staring out at the Sierra Nevada from the giant hammock.
After family dinner & bottle if vino tinto we settled on the couches & watched Cool Runnings. It was a great night.
