Managed a morning run around the tiny town of Flores. Entire place done in 12 minutes or so. A couple of laps in 90% humidity was well & truly enough!
After brunch & some trip admin we headed to Tikal for the afternoon & a sunset tour.
Tikal was very different to the other Mayan sites we have previously visited in Mexico. The ruins remains in a thick jungle setting with howler & spider monkeys jumping from tree to tree overhead.
We visited the main parts of the ruins, climbed up a few of the pyramids & settled in to watched sunset from the highest temple.
It's such a huge site it's impossible to see it all in a few hours and if we had planned it again we would have camped in the park & also come back in for sunrise. With the last structure at Tikal built in 700BC the ruins we were able to see were such a small insight into the 100,000 Mayans who once occupied the site.
