Lindy & I seem to have scored the squeakiest bunks in our mixed dorm room & were both up super early. We decided to do our own morning walking tour before breakfast and scope out more of the city.
We discovered some amazing street art & some great little cafés & galleries before catching up with our friend from Cuba - Jodie. Jodie has been working with Envia (http://envia.org) a NFP here in Oaxaca that supports women through microfinance loans. I went with Jodie and a few others for the afternoon to visit 6 of the women who have secured loans & developed their businesses through Envia.
It was a great experience & I'm really pleased I had the opportunity to meet these entrepreneurial women who are transforming their families and their communities. From artisan wares to textiles and even Internet cafés - the 6 women I was fortunate to meet are among some 300 loan recipients around Teotitlan & Santo Domingo Tomaltopec who are true change leaders.
After getting back to Oaxaca we went for dinner & drinks, winding our way through dancers & fireworks as Friday festivities fired up in the Zocalo.
Mexico never disappoints & Oaxaca is no exception.
