Day 34 - Vinales

CUBA | Monday, 30 June 2014 | Views [545]

I don't think I will ever get tired of drinking out of coconuts- water or cocktails- it just makes everything seem more exciting.

I spent the morning poolside at hotel La Ermita - not a great pool but a stunning vista of the moments & a great place for a quick cool down.

Finished my third book for the Cuba trip & honored the deal I struck with the local bookshop owner in Vinales. Thanks to her I enjoyed at least two more piña coladas than I had budgeted for :)

After securing a cab to take us the 2.5 hrs to Havana airport for the morning at a bargain price I was keen to try & head to a tobacco farm for a tour for the afternoon. Unfortunately the trip didn't work out so we spent the avo packing & playing cards.

We decided to venture out for our final dinner & not eat at the Casa tonight. On the way out Lindy helped rescue a little puppy who was stuck in a fence & put him back with the rest of the litter. Poor little guy - he was clearly the runt of his 10 siblings but at least he now has a better chance of making it. A good deed for the day!

Further into town we ran into a nice kiwi couple we had met in Havana on our second night - Will & Alycia. We caught up for a drink & used the opportunity to swap stories about our experiences in & of Cuba. Turns out they're taking a similar route round Central America as we are so we will no doubt see them again in the coming months.

We ended up having dinner at this cute little vegetarian restaurant (that also serves meat) for a tasty final meal in Cuba. Being Monday night in a small town our dinner & cocktails capped off our time in Vinales perfectly.

Thanks Cuba. It's been... interesting. Like no other place I've ever been & changing so fast I'm not sure you could ever have this experience again.
