Day 33 - Vinales

CUBA | Sunday, 29 June 2014 | Views [385]

Sitting on the porch of our Casa - Dany y Carlos in Vinales watching the lightening & rain while thunder roars overhead. It's cooling down as the day draws to an end.

Today we hired bikes & cycled around Vinales. We met an American girl called Stacy - a high school spanish teacher from Colorado who became our bike buddy for the day. Stacey is a keen mountain biker & we ended up traversing several extremely muddy paddocks in search of trails to a waterfall that felt like it was always going to be just over that next hill but never was.

After a few hours we decided to double back to town & just take the road to the lake instead. We stopped for lunch & a piña colada (minus the rum). At that point I decided that as I was covered in mud, my bike gears didn't work & the seat had already given me bruises in places I didn't know existed that I would call it quits on the bike for the day.

Lindy & Stacey still headed out for the 40km ride & I used the afternoon to wander around the town until the storm hit. I would have loved to keep going on the bike but I swear I had never been so uncomfortable in my life & aborting the ride was the best option.

Managed to do a deal with the woman in the bookshop to borrow a new one in exchange for mine. Saved me a good $7 and has given me something to read in English now that my attempted Spanglish conversation with the family at our Casa has dried up :)
