Rockaway Beach, NY: The gymnasium behind St. Camillus and St. Virgilius Parish had been turned into a place for residents to restock on the necessities. Narrow aisles snaked through tables of clothing and food donated by people and various organizations. People could pick up anything from hot food to warm clothing. It was organized by the Occupy Sandy movement. Hurricane Sandy caused over $63 billion USD in damage across the United States on October 2012.

Rockaway Beach, NY: Walking alongside what was left of the boardwalk, I bumped into Tom Ormsby and his protective dog, Roxy. Ormsby lives right by the boardwalk and saw firsthand when the waters rushed in and lifted the boardwalk past his window. When I found him resting by the side of the road with his dog, he was cheerful, but he knew that it would be a while before life in the Rockaways would be restored as he once knew it.. Rockaway Beach, NY: Tables at St. Camillus School are overflowing with clothing provided by donations. The gymnasium doors were open for residents and suppliers alike. Trucks constantly pulled in and out of the street, with cadres of men and women of all ages hauling boxes of supplies inside. Occupy Sandy as well as FEMA were able to provide material assistance, but for most, it's not enough. Jose Marrero, a resident of Rockaway Beach, is among the many.
