Rockaway Beach, NY: Walking alongside what was left of the boardwalk, I bumped into Tom Ormsby and his protective dog, Roxy. Ormsby lives right by the boardwalk and saw firsthand when the waters rushed in and lifted the boardwalk past his window. When I found him resting by the side of the road with his dog, he was cheerful, but he knew that it would be a while before life in the Rockaways would be restored as he once knew it..
