He feels the government isn't doing enough, especially in that community. But he reminisced about the old Rockaways, and how people kept to themselves. It took tragedy to bring these people together, he said. He lamented the destruction of the kids' playgrounds and parks. "There's nothing to do here anymore. There's nothing." Hurricane Sandy caused an estimated $63 billion USD in damage across the United States in October 2012.
