The community revolves around the lake and almost all travel is done via boat, with the waterways becoming narrower and narrower into the dry season. This lady is on her way back from the market with her groceries, heading home to cook and feed her family.

While their older family members are busy with their daily chores, these three boys enjoy their freedom and entertain themselves with a good old fashioned game of ‘It’. Although all the people in the village of Kompong Phhluk live with only the most basic amenities, the overpowering sense when I visited there was how happy they were. The importance of family and team work has not been lost as is so often the case in the Western world.

Everyone has their own role to play in the fishing ‘production line’ in the village and here the boys are busy untangling and mending the fishing nets. In the background the stilt legs of the houses tower above the boat.
