Puerto Morelos

MEXICO | Monday, 11 October 2010 | Views [346]

It is funny how plans change...it seems as soon as we make any plans to go somewhere they change. The plan was to go to Cancun and pick up Rob and Amy from the airport and stay somewhere in Cancun...we picked them up alright but instead of staying in the big dirty city of Caucun, we are staying in a cute little town called Puerto Morelos, which is about half way between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. It's such a cute town and because it is low season there are almost no people around. It would be crazy busy in te high season though and I am so glad that we are not here for that. The renuion was good, it was like we just saw them a week ago and not three and a half months ago. The airport is such a crazy place though, there are people everywhere holding signs and yelling out names and then when you walk outside the taxi guys are so bad. They are so desperate for business these days that they hound you and will not leave you alone. Poor Laura had to take the brunt of it all because she is the one who speaks Spanish...I felt so sorry for her. We are spending 3 nights here in Puerto Morelos and theres not much to do except relax and enjoy the sun. Yesterday we may have enjoyed the sun a little too much; I got a little burnt, Amys feet and arms got a little burnt, April's face burnt, and Rob was the worst, I've never seen him so pink before! Laura was the only one who didn't burn at all and it was funny because she was the only one wearing suntaning oil! It also made us look like such tourists; stupid white people who stayed in the sun too long. Oh well we've learnt a lesson now.
Tomorrow we are off to Valladolid, which is central to Chichen Itza, Ek Balam and Yaxuna. We have roughly planned the next 3 weeks out and it is going to be so full on! Even with April's rest days it is still going to be crazy busy, but I think thats what makes it fun. We are also thinking about hiring a car...tossing up between the money and the convienience. I think it is worth it, but we have to find a cheap deal and not one that charges more for you to drop the car off at a different place than where you picked it up than what it costs to hire the car in the first place!

Ok theres a nice short blog for you today. I realised that I am probably writing too much each time and it's probably a little boring for those who don't really care about Maya ruins and the like. And sorry about the lack of photos lately...we take so many and its hard to go through them all and pick some for the blog when you have a crappy internet connection. Ok bye all,

Catherine.xoxo
