Today I exchanged my money for 'New Israeli Sheqels' (the Israeli currency.) Last week, it was $1 to 4NIS; today it was $1 to 3NIS. What a lesson in world economics to watch the value of the dollar drop right before my eyes.
When I came home, I broke into my small stash of coins that I hadn't exchanged last year. Turns out that one of them, the '5 sheqalim' hasn't been considered legal tender for over twenty years. Now I know why no one would take it. I also am somewhat suspicious that I received it because I was a stupid American (not that that ever happens.) Oh well. You live, you learn, and you don't accept '5 sheqalim' coins from anyone.
The only really awesome part about money exchange is that NIS are brightly colored, and the new ones are made of plastic! With see-through Stars of David on them! Woo!! The photo doesn't do their awesomeness justice.
Anyway, only one full day left in America! Sababa! ('Awesome' in Hebrew)
