East Coast - part 2

USA | Wednesday, 13 March 2013 | Views [302]

Hello from Virginia Beach.

Since our last entry we have travelled across 8 states and racked up about 1300 miles (2080km's) in our KIA Soul. I'm writing from the lovely Virginia Beach or should I say, American Gold Coast where is is bucketing down and the calming sounds of the ocean and consistent low flying fighter jets. That's right, our hotel is 300m from a beach and close to an Air Force base buzzing our tower every 20 odd minutes thus far. Hopefully they sleep like we do.

Boston was great and was certainly clean and businesses like 711 and Maccas make their signs in an old fashioned style. It was a bit stiff getting a parking fine with time on the meter, but at $25, it wasn't a Melbourne level fine.

New York was an absolute blast from the past. Our first stop was at my old Garden City house and tour of the neighbourhood. Sadly the local pizza shop is now a cupcake shop, but all was forgiven with a massive slice of New York style margarita. Leaving our car at the airport to avoid inner city parking fees, we caught the subway into town with break dancers hustling the commuters. Our hotel was nice and we filled our days with: stand up, bagels, sight seeing and observing all the things that were "closed" due to hurricane Sandy. I managed to get a decent hair cut from a local barber who used a straight shave to tidy up, impressive! (A person travelling and not coming back looking like a yeti that is).

On our way down to DC, we stopped in at Philly only to see the Liberty Bell and a horse taxi rank longer than the airport. DC was great, except for our laundry indiscretion. We had no clothes to wear the following day and someone didn't like the sound of the dryer running late and made a point about it. The threw all of our clothes on the floor and stuffed some of them into the bin. There were allot of shady characters around, so we headed to the safety of the well guarded museums and monuments. All the museums were free and they really had it together. Ie The air and space museum had the original Apollo 11 command module, suits still with moon dust on them and simulator rides that flipped you upside down, enough said.

Looking forward to the next leg of our journey.

If they invent a time machine to go back to the dinosaurs, I'm definitely not surfing!

I'm confused what this trady does but I want no part of it!
