Kigali is the capital of Rwanda. The main draw for me to come here was the Genocide Memorial. In 1994 there was a Genocide in Rwanda that killed over 800,000 people in the course of three months. Right now they are mourning the Genocide because it's the 15 anniversary. I only could do half the museum/memorial because there was a group of about 75 local Rwandans visiting the memorial. They had mattresses set up in the room with the pictures of the kids that were murdered, and outside by the mass grave of 250,000 of the victims. Women were passing out and having to be carried out of the building screaming or put on the mattresses because it was so emotional for them. I decided to leave because it seemed too personal at the time for an outsider to be wandering around the grounds while people were still that much affected by something that happened a decade and a half ago.
