'I love a sunburnt country' You cant beat a summer in the Southern Hemisphere!

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited - 'I love a sunburnt country'

Australia | Thursday, January 10, 2013 | 5 photos

Summer in the Southern Hemisphere is unique, vibrant and extreme from weird and wonderful creatures to mother natures wrath Australia is a diverse and surprising continent at the best of times but in the summertime, I just wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Growing up in Australia as a child I loved the outdoors and all its wonders from the garden to the beach to the dirt bike tracks that lay hidden to unsuspecting eyes, so after spending five years travelling the globe I decided that there is in fact 'no place like home' and have based my photo gallery on my home town of Jervis Bay in New South Wales Australia it is one of the most visited marine parks in Australia and is home to a unique mix of tropical and temperate species including the weedy sea-dragon, eastern blue devil fish, whale, bottlenose dolphin, little penguin, fur seal and the endangered grey nurse shark. Jervis Bay is also subject to severe fires being surrounded by bush land and national parks and this summer was no exception, while experiencing our hottest summer day on record a fire in a rural area just west of Jervis Bay broke out threatening people, homes and livestock. Unfortunately this is an all too common sight in this area and locals have now become accustomed to packing all their worldly belongings into their car, trailers or campers ready to flee in the event of evacuation, just another day in the Australian summer.
