How many times do you take a photo and think to yourself 'that's the one, that's the photo'? For me it's every time I take a photo, I love every picture I take and not because I think im an overly exceptional photographer but because I just genuinely love that moment when the camera captures an image that would otherwise only ever be seen by your eye. I see something in every picture I take otherwise I wouldn'it be taking it. I grew up in Australia and spent 5 years based in London while I travelled the globe experiencing some of the most beautiful, extreme, hostile, vibrant and exciting places on this planet all with my trusty camera, what ever camera I could afford at the time.
I was evacuated off a bus in 2005 only 500 metres from where a bomb had been exploded in London also known now as the London Bombings, I found myself profoundly overcome with grief and physically sick while entering the 'gas chamber' after walking through the Dachau concentration camp outside Munich in Germany, I have bunjy jumped off one of the worlds highest viaducts in Normandy, France and watched on as a farmer helped a struggling cow give birth on a roadside in 32 degree heat outside Valencia, Spain but none of these experiences prepared me for the momentous task of being a wife and mother.
I met my husband in London in 2006 and took him on a 4 month travel expedition of Australia after getting married on the Gold Coast within 9 months of meeting we decided to settle back in London and continue work and travel while deciding what to do with the rest of our lives together, eventually that decision was to relocate back to Australia to start a family in 2010 and the rest as they say 'is history'. I have two amazingly beautiful children, a 2yr old boy and 1yr old girl and I wouldn't have it any other way, needless to say they are the main subject of my photography and hundreds of photos in every possible setting adorn our family home but my husband doesn't mind, he is my biggest fan when it comes to my picture taking, he encourages me in every way, shape and form to follow my dreams and persue the things I hold close to my heart including entering the World Nomads Scholarship program with National Geographic to which I had deemed myself ineligable for due to my lack of formal photography training.
I am very thankful for such open and exciting opportunities such as these that give people like me the chance to show that anyone with a camera and passion can be a photographer, I have never been to Oman and could think of nowhere else I'd like to go since hearing of this scholarship and I would like to wish every entrant the very best of luck and I cannot wait to see the winners photos from their phenomenal scholarship trip to Oman.
