I am sitting at Manila airport. We have
a few hours to wait until we can board our delayed PAL Express flight
to Naga. The reason for the delay?
“We only have one plane SirMam”
Right.
Fortunately, there are plenty of coffee
options here even at 6am. We are sitting at Deli France now. We had a
choice of GoNuts DoNuts (sounds too much like gonads to be
appetising), Let's Chow and Chaikofi. David is reading out bits
about the hike we are planning to do tomorrow. I haven't climbed a
mountain in months – I hope I'm up to it.
Anyway, to continue our Manila story.
Saturday was all about sightseeing. Saturday night and Sunday were
all about shopping and pampering. I love being in Hotel Land. Pool.
Club lounge. Shops. Salons. Food courts. More shopping.
One of the newest group of malls is
called “Greenbelt” which I thought was a pretty stupid name for a
mall. It would be even more ironic if they had actually built it on
wilderness. The mall surrounds a large area of trees and tropical
plants and is actually very nice. We did a lap of the outside board
walk on Sunday night and perused dining options. The temperature was
perfect and all the restaurants had tables outside under palm trees.
Lovely. I keep forgetting that Filipinos are quite religious. It is
lent at the moment and a Catholic mass was taking place outside in
this “green area”. Mass was in English and the sermon was about
lent. The priest started singing “over the rainbow....” and
everyone joined in. That was bizarre.
We had tapas and drinks at Cafe Havana,
but had an early flight ready for our 4.30am wakeup call. I hate
early flights.
