Just a quick update>>> I spent a few days out of Manila along the sparsely populated Zambales coast this Thursday through Saturday. It was great...the South China Sea is warm, it was quiet, the food was great, violent lightning, and the nipa hut was legit. I've got bug bites all over my face to prove it. I'm hoping they fade as I try to not look like a freak when I get to Palawan. It was still the best sleep I had in a long while. The sweet susurrations of waves and wind in the trees. Along the route there were stereotypical vistas of Southeast Asian rice paddies and water buffalo.
Tomorrow, I hop a quick flight to Palawan, where I'll stay with Lizz, my hopefully fellow incoming Clarkie. She's a professor at Palawan State, and by the sounds of her, she'll run me ragged for the few days leading up to our Society for Conservation GIS conference. She is heading up a 3-day training seminar for local gov't from all over the island to improve skills and expand use of GIS technology for resource and environmental management. Then Leah will join us Saturday for her few days of well deserved play at hopefully the tail end of her overseas research. Please check back for updates! Be good.
