dear all,

Realised after writing about dresden, that i didnt even cover the things that we did in dresden..i was too buzy writing about the people we met.lol, sorry! in dresden we visited the old town, which includes a beautful church of our lady, which was totally destryed in the allied bombings and finally reopened in 2006. Its a beautiful new church, and really stands out because most of the older buildings contain half new bricks and structures and half old black burnt parts. After the bombings the city and its amazing monuments were rebuilt, but you can still see the surviving parts..the black bits. and then the black clouds came...quickly jumped into a tram and then the rain fell..i havtn seen rain like that in australia for years..it pelted and we were only half way home..noo..we ran the rest and got a little soaked. Whenever we take the raincoats it dosnt rain and when we dont have them it pours.

Our last night in dresden we spent with dans great uncle and his children and their children and their children..there were roughly 20 or so people and 4 generations. The daughters spoke rough english and their daughters spoke perfect english, so we talked and ate sausage and dresden cake..kinda like cheesecake.

From dresden we caught the train to munich. Caught a regional train half way, and i swear the train driver had the train going flat stick the whole way and around the corners the train started to rock really bad..the lady behind me started gagging into a bag, and then another girl threw up just oustide the toilet and made a mess..thats how bad the train trip was. Luckily we swapped half way onto the ICE-inter city express, these are the nicest most expensive trains, but we had our eurails passes so its all paid for..was alot smoother too.

Arrived in munich at 4.30pm, got a map from the hostel and decided to take the beer challenge at 6pm. Munich is the beer capital of the world..aparently..the beers are made without any preservatives and apparently the hangover isnt so bad, so we thought we would test the theory out.

before i continue with our beer drinking..beer in munich is served in big and small glasses. The small is 500ml and the big is one litre...thats alot of beer..

The tour is a walking and tram tour, we began in the chinese gardens..that are more beer gardens then anything chinese. Had our first beer..a big one..and learned to toast our big glasses like the locals and then drink like the locals. Its nice beer and even i managed to drink a whole litre!..and then i giggled my way to the next stop..

Without realising we were doing the tour on the same night the everyone in munich was celebrating a big soccer win..so much so that our second stop had to be skipped because the crowds were crazy, we crammed in to the tram and then walked for half an hour..way too long in between drinks and wee breaks..my bladder was holding a litre of wee....finally got to next stop and learnt a few beer songs along with our beer. Strangely our tour guide was an irish man doing german beer tours..he was really nice though.

Finally ended at the bar right next our hostel, which was very handy. Had karaoke and a free beer and jager shot..so we kept dancing and requesting songs at karaoke..but they never played our damn song..probable in hindsight though im glad they didnt play our songs because it would have been really painful for everybody else. Had an awesome night énjoying munich beer, pretzels and talking to everyone else on the tour..and dan won us a free tour because he skulled a litre of beer...and kept it down.

Staggered back to the hostel...our dorm is in the basement and is a 40 bed dorm!im pretty sure i woke up everyone and copped a little abuse...grumpy american called me a richard cranium..prob cz i thre dans stinky shoe near her bed..oops..and then when i woke everyone up getting to my bed, there was someone sleeping in my bed, a stinky man who made my bed stink, so dan and i squuezed two ppl into his bed..luckily we slept as much as we passed out..gotta love german beer.

payback is a bitch though...the grumpy american woke us at 7 leaving the hostel..damn her.

Today it was pouring with rain so we went to the museum of modern art..dan was thrilled..and i loved seeing van ´goghs sunflowers and monet and picasso and cezanne and schiele...my kinda morning. From there went to the biggest beer hall in munich, the haufbrauhaus and had lunch and a beer. The place is huge with lots of beer and food.

Planning on seeing the sights around munich tomorrow, hopefully the weather will be nicer.

i think im going to go for a nap now though..

love to all

Love jess xoxooxox

Hi Jess, how do you get time to write so much, you are so busy!!!walking, drinking, tram rides, drinking, museums, drinking, Munich is the place to be! We are also having lots of rain it didn't stop Friday night Saturday all day, and Saturday night. I know we need it but I've had enough already!!! Did you have to castch the regional train, or was that one of your 'mistakes'? You must all have 'iron'stomachs to cope with that. Stuttgart next stop I believe, have fun
luv g'ma and g'pa. Did you see the famous clock in Munich?

Bit too much information on the full bladder Jess! You must be so proud of Dan holding up the Aussie flag by being able to hold his beer. Well done Dan. Glad you got to see some of those art pictures you studied in real life Jess. Don't worry about grumpy Americans just give them hell and tell them to get over themselves!! Have a beer for me. Enjoy love Bassos
